Job Title: RF & Embedded Software Intern (Wireless Communications & RF) Internship/Working Student (Masters/PhD)

Location: Munich On Site

About the Role

Wireless, RF, and embedded customer prototypes are the fastest way we learn what will work in the field. This internship places you alongside a Field Applications team working on real customer and internal challenges spanning cellular (5G/6G), RF system bring-up, embedded software validation and application level. Mentorship and structured check-ins are built in, and you will be expected to drive an applied technical project to a clear outcome by the end of the internship.

What You will Work On (Core Responsibilities)

  • Develop and showcase wireless/RF/embedded proof-of-concepts alongside the Field Applications team, turning early-stage ideas into working prototype for real-world scenarios.
  • Build and execute RF and baseband test setups, including bend measurements, logging, repeatable test procedures, and basic automation where useful.
  • Analyse cellular (5G/6G) system behaviour using software tools and lab instrumentation to identify issues, interpret results, and propose next engineering steps.
  • Implement embedded experiments in C/C++ and/or Python to enable bring-up data capture, and system evaluation.
  • Investigate technical questions from internal teams or customers and summarize findings in clear, actionable reports.
  • Present technical results to internal stakeholders, and when appropriate, support the team in customer-facing discussions.
  • Example Internship Deliverables (4-6 Months)

  • A working PoC demo plus a short technical report (setup, results, limitations, next steps)
  • A repeatable test plan (and optional lightweight automation) for a wireless/RF subsystem
  • A Graphical User Interface coupled with embedded software and hardware
  • A Recommendations brief for a customer-relevant use case (what worked, what did not, what we should do next)
  • Requirements

  • Current Masters or PhD student in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Communications Engineering, RF Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (enrolled throughout the internship)
  • Communications fundamentals: modulation, RF basics, link budgets, system-level thinking
  • Familiarity with at least one of: 5G/NR concepts, SDRs, RF front-end blocks, antennas, satellite communication, beamforming, joint communication and sensing JCAS/ISAC, embedded bring-up
  • Exposure to embedded Linux, microcontrollers, or FPGA/RTL concepts.
  • Programming ability in C/C++ and/or Python for lab work, scripting, or embedded validation
  • Demonstrated hands-on problem-solving through research, projects, labs, or prior internships
  • Clear technical communication: able to explain what you tried, what happened, and what it means
  • Nice to Have

  • AI/ML Experience
  • Experience with lab instrumentation (spectrum analyzer, VNA, signal generator, oscilloscope)
  • Interest in power circuits/subsystems as they relate to communications platforms
  • Prior work with test automation, data analysis, or tooling (e.g., Git, CI basics, MATLAB)
  • What We Offer

  • Close mentorship from experienced Field Applications Engineers
  • Real customer-facing and system-level engineering exposure (wireless/RF + embedded)
  • A defined project with clear milestones and an end-of-internship technical readout
  • A collaborative team environment with strong learning culture
  • Job Req Type: Internship/CooperativeRequired Travel: No
