The City of Georgetown Office of Emergency Management is offering one paid internship position to support emergency preparedness, community outreach, and operational activities. This internship will focus on designing and developing community emergency preparedness pamphlets and outreach materials to enhance public awareness and readiness.The intern will work closely with emergency management staff to create accessible, engaging, and informative materials for residents, while also assisting with day-to-day emergency management responsibilities.
This internship provides valuable hands-on experience, opportunities to build a professional network, and participation in local and regional emergency management meetings, trainings, and workshops.
The intern will primarily work in an office environment under the supervision of the Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator. The internship is approximately 20 hours per week, with flexible scheduling as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Design and develop community emergency preparedness pamphlets and outreach materials.
Assist with public education campaigns, including seasonal preparedness messaging and social media content.
Support updates to internal and external websites with preparedness information.
Assist in the development and maintenance of emergency plans, annexes, and procedures.
Support severe weather monitoring and emergency response activities.
Assist with Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations and readiness efforts.
Help maintain and organize EOC supplies and inventory.
Participate in preparedness projects, including workshops, exercises, and after-action reviews.
Make presentations to staff, partners, and community groups as needed.
Effectively organize and manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, training, and Experience:
Third or fourth-year student pursuing a four-year Bachelor’s degree (or Master’s degree) in one of the following fields of study: Emergency Management, Marketing, Communication, Public Administration, or related degree.
Knowledge of:
Good customer service practices and principles
Basic emergency management principles
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canva
Skills in:
Continual attention to detail: must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to prioritize duties and juggle multiple competing tasks and demands
Communicating diverse content and responding effectively, both orally and in writing
Using a computer and utilizing Microsoft Office applications, including advance word processing/desktop publishing, Excel, and Power Point skills
Reading, analyzing, and interpreting policies, plans, reports, memos, correspondence, and other documents
Using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives
Accurately recording and maintaining records
Must be comfortable speaking with new people in person, via telephone, and through e-mail communication
Strong interpersonal skills: the ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, upbeat, and energetic, takes initiative, uses tact and diplomacy
Ability to work with minimal supervision and direction.
SCHEDULE
Anticipated start date: 6/15/2026, flexible
Anticipated end date: 8/28/2026, flexible
The internship will consist of 20 hours per week.
Deadlines and schedules will be developed with the student and supervisor.
Dependable transportation needed.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.

EMPLOYMENT TESTING
Employment is contingent on passing post-offer, pre-employment drug testing, criminal background investigation and driving record check.
Hiring Range: $15.00 - $20.00, hourly.
