R&D Intern - Material Science
Everest is a fast-growing climate technology startup specializing in innovative sensor technology for the commercialization of negative emissions. Our mission is to enable 1 billion tons of CO₂ removed per year by 2035 through our products and services.
As an R&D Intern, you will directly contribute to Everest's core scientific and technical development. You’ll support our research across materials science, chemistry, and physics—ranging from bench-scale analytical experiments to complex field trials in real-world conditions.
Reporting directly to our Head of R&D, an MIT-trained engineer and exprienced technical founder, this internship offers a rare opportunity to experience the full research lifecycle in a venture-backed climate deep-tech company—from hands-on experimentation to strategic synthesis of findings for product and field deployment.
Tasks- Conduct bench-scale physical and analytical chemistry experiments
- Assist in preparation and execution of field validation campaigns for our sensor systems
- Run controlled experiments in our test rigs and lab setups
- Characterize new materials, resins, and chemical processes relevant to our sensors
- Analyze experimental data and contribute to internal reporting and high-level R&D synthesis
- Master’s degree (completed or in final stages) in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or related field
- Curious and driven personality, eager to learn and apply scientific thinking in a real-world tech setting
- Strong organizational skills and comfort working in a fast-paced, self-directed environment
- Solid data analysis skills (preferably Python)
- Bonus: Experience in sensor, or other measurement equipment calibration
- Competitive pay
- Hands-on R&D experience at the frontier of climate tech
- Exposure to both scientific fundamentals and real-world application of sensor technologies
- A supportive company culture focused on climate impact as a team
- A stellar team of ambitious engineers and scientists committed to learning, building, and solving for the planet
We Would Love to Hear From You
We understand that you might not fit all the requirements above perfectly. We envision our team to be as diverse as the solutions that will solve the climate crisis. Forming a compassionate workplace is a core part of our culture—welcoming all walks of life, experiences, and perspectives. Candidates from structurally underrepresented backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
Apply Now
If you're ready to kickstart your research career and help shape the future of carbon removal, apply today.
Everest Carbon is a fast-growing, VC-backed climate technology startup specializing in innovative sensor technology for the commercialization of negative emissions.
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 5-10 billion tons of negative emissions per year are needed to achieve net zero by 2050. Enhanced Rock Weathering is seen by experts as one of the most scalable approaches to bind CO2 from the atmosphere sustainably, affordably, and permanently.
Everest has set itself the task of providing customers with the necessary measurement technology to precisely measure how much CO2 has actually been removed.
Join our team now and build a key technology for a green future with us! 🍀
